I have a few questions about genes?
Now, my mom is blonde and 5’9. Typical Scandinavian look. My dad is (supposedly) just French and has dark hair and is 6’1. Now, I have Red hair (i know where i got it from) and i’m 5’2 and the tiniest person in my family meaning length and width. My Mom has fine hair and my dad has thick hair. I have thick AND coarse hair.
I was on Wikipedia and it was talking about how Meditterreanean people differ from people like my mother but why is it that i’m the tiniest one in the family when both sides are tall and pretty stout?
In order of likeliness:
1) You take after one of your grandparents or great grandparents instead of your parents; or, in gambler’s terms, you drew a rare hand in the genetic poker game.
2) You were adopted.
3) Your mom had a fling and your dad never knew.
4) Your dad had a fling, your mom knew, the “flingee” died and your mom accepted you out of the goodness of her heart.
5) You were stolen by gypsies from a petite family in the south, and sold to your parents. This is the most exciting. For $20 I’ll elaborate it into 500 words.
Back to (1), the Mediterranean has been filled with people who traveled and swapped genes, voluntarily and not (rape was one of the privileges of a conquering army, once) for at least 2500 years. Your dad probably has more genes floating around inside him than, for instance, a Zulu, a Masai, an Eskimo or an Icelander.
